Shipping & Takeaway

Shipping, Delivery & Takeaway Policy

Last updated: October 2026 · Digital Book of India Private Limited

In short: delivery is open-box and always has a charge; times are estimates. You can instead collect an order from one seller's shop: pay 20% online and the rest at the shop.

1. Who delivers your order

Your order is packed by the independent seller and handed to a delivery partner arranged through the Platform. Diwali Mela connects the seller, the delivery partner and you, and tracks the order. The seller is responsible for packing and for what is inside; the delivery partner is responsible for carrying the parcel to you.

2. Delivery charges

  • Delivery is never free. A delivery charge applies to every order that is delivered to you.
  • The charge depends on your PIN code (zone) and the weight of the products, and is shown on the cart and at checkout before you pay. It is added to the order total and is not part of the product price.
  • If an order has products from more than one seller, each parcel may carry its own charge, which is shown at checkout.
  • A takeaway order has no delivery charge, because you collect it from the shop.

3. Delivery times

  • The delivery time shown is an estimate, not a promise. It starts when the seller packs the order, and depends on the seller, the distance, the delivery partner, the weather, festival rush and local restrictions.
  • We deliver only to PIN codes we serve. You can check yours on the product page and at checkout.
  • Delays caused by events beyond our control are not a breach of these terms (see the Terms of Use).

4. Receiving your order: open-box delivery

  • Please be available at the address and keep your phone on. The delivery partner will call you and may ask for a delivery code (OTP) before handing over the parcel. Do not share the code with anyone but the delivery partner at your door.
  • Delivery is open-box. Open the parcel when it arrives, check that it is what you ordered and that it is not damaged, and record a short video while you open it. How to report a wrong or defective item is in the Returns, Cancellation & Refund Policy (within 48 hours of delivery).
  • If you refuse a parcel without a valid reason (for example, a change of mind), or no one is available after the delivery partner's attempts, or the address or phone number is wrong, the order may be returned to the seller and cancelled. The cancellation charge applies, and the delivery charge is not refunded.
  • Risk of the goods passes to you when they are delivered to you.

5. Cash on Delivery

Cash on Delivery may be offered for some pin codes and order values. Keep the exact amount ready. We may withdraw it for an address or account after refusals or failed deliveries.

6. Takeaway: collecting from the seller's shop

For items from one seller you may choose Takeaway at checkout instead of delivery. There is no distance limit: whether to travel is your decision.

  • You choose a pickup date (up to 30 days ahead) and may suggest a time.
  • You pay a 20% advance online. The balance (80%) is paid directly to the seller at the shop, when you collect the goods. Cash on Delivery is not available for takeaway.
  • The seller marks the order ready for pickup. Carry your order number and your phone, and check the goods before you pay the balance. The shop name, address and phone number are on your order.
  • When you have collected and paid, the seller marks the order completed. Collecting a takeaway order is a delivery to you, so what we say about wrong or defective items in the Returns Policy applies: check the goods at the shop before you leave.
  • If you cancel before the seller has packed the order, you get the advance back less the 2% charge.
  • If you do not collect the order on your pickup date, the seller may mark it not collected. The order is then cancelled, and the advance is refunded or retained as we decide, taking into account the seller's loss. We will tell you by email.
  • The seller's shop is run by the seller. We are not responsible for what happens at the shop, but we will help to resolve a complaint.

7. Lost or damaged parcels

If your parcel is lost, or arrives damaged, tell the delivery partner and write to us within 48 hours of the expected delivery or the delivery. We look into it with the seller and the delivery partner and, where the loss is confirmed, you get a replacement or a full refund.
