Secure Payments Policy
Last updated: October 2026 · Digital Book of India Private Limited
1. How your payment is processed
Online payments on Diwali Mela are handled by Razorpay, a payment gateway regulated in India, and by the bank, card network or UPI app you choose. The payment page opens on a secure, encrypted connection (HTTPS). You can pay by UPI, debit or credit card, net banking and wallets, as shown at checkout.
Diwali Mela (Digital Book of India Private Limited) is a marketplace. We collect the payment on behalf of the independent seller whose product you buy, and pass it on to the seller after the order is delivered, after our fees and taxes.
2. What we see and what we never see
- We never see or store your full card number, CVV, expiry, UPI PIN, net-banking password or OTP. You type them only on the gateway's or your bank's own secure page.
- We keep only the order, the amount, the payment status and the gateway's payment reference, so that we can confirm, track and refund your order.
- Card details you choose to save are kept by the gateway in tokenised form, under the rules of the Reserve Bank of India, and not by us.
- We never ask for your PIN, OTP, password or card details on a call, SMS, WhatsApp or email. Do not share them with anyone, including anyone who says they are from Diwali Mela.
3. How the payment is kept safe
- The gateway follows the PCI DSS security standard for card data, and your bank adds its own checks, such as a one-time password or UPI PIN.
- We check every payment with the gateway using a signed confirmation before an order is marked paid, so a fake "payment successful" message cannot create a paid order.
- We reconcile payments with the gateway in the background, to catch a payment that was taken but not reported back to us.
- We may hold or cancel an order that looks fraudulent or that the bank flags, and we may ask you to prove who you are.
4. If a payment fails or money is cut twice
- A payment that fails is not an order. Please try again or choose another method.
- If money was deducted but the order did not complete, the amount is returned to your account by your bank, usually in 5 to 7 working days. If the order shows as paid in My Orders, no action is needed.
- If money was deducted twice or is not back after 7 working days, write to us with the payment reference and the time. We check with the gateway and make sure it is returned.
- Do not pay again while a payment is still being processed. Wait a few minutes and check My Orders first.
5. Cash on Delivery
Cash on Delivery may be offered for some orders and pin codes. Pay the delivery partner the exact order amount when you receive the parcel, and ask for the receipt. We may stop Cash on Delivery for an address or account after refused or failed deliveries. A takeaway order always needs the advance to be paid online (20%); the balance is paid to the seller at the shop.
6. Refunds
- A refund always goes back to the same method you paid with (the same card, UPI ID or bank account). We cannot send it elsewhere.
- If you cancel a paid order before it is packed and handed to the delivery partner, you get the total back less a 2% cancellation charge (the payment charges we cannot recover). If we or the seller cancel, you get a full refund.
- For a wrong or defective product that is confirmed, the refund is full and the cost is the seller's, as in the Returns Policy.
- After we approve a refund, it reaches you in about 5 to 7 working days, depending on your bank. UPI is often faster. Cash on Delivery refunds are sent by bank transfer or UPI.
- There are no refunds for a change of mind. See the Returns, Cancellation & Refund Policy.
7. Prices, taxes and charges you see
- Prices are in Indian Rupees and include GST unless shown otherwise. The total at checkout includes the delivery charge, which applies to every delivered order.
- We do not add a hidden fee at the payment step. Your bank or card issuer may charge you for foreign cards or certain methods, which is between you and them.
- An invoice for every order is available under My Orders.
8. Help with a payment
Write to contact@digitalbookofindia.com or call +91 98180 73779 with your order number and payment reference, or use the Help Center. Complaints are handled by our Grievance Officer as described in the Terms of Use.
